Passionate about Your Care
Pelvic health IS healthcare - and we go above and beyond to ensure your symptoms do not get swept under the rug.
Pregnancy and Birth Prep
One of the programs we offer is pregnancy and birth preparation. Whether during your first trimester and looking for guidelines for a safe exercise program, or if pain/symptoms come up later in pregnancy making it difficult to keep up your normal routine, we are here to help.
During the third trimester, the focus will shift to helping prepare you for labor and birth, through techniques like pelvic floor muscle training, labor positions, and perineal massage, all which can reduce risk of perineal tearing during birth and reduce the risk of incontinence postpartum.
Many clients that I work with share how uncertain they feel during pregnancy. The prevailing notion around pregnancy for years was for women to rest and avoid exercise during this time - but research shows how beneficial physical activity is for your health and for your birth journey. It’s a great way to show yourself how strong and capable you are!
About Me
Hi! I’m Dr. Allison Van Hook, and I am a pelvic floor physical therapist. I have worked at some of the top institutions in the country treating orthopedics, patients with neurological conditions, and medically complex cancer patients. The more I treated, the more I realized how pelvic floor function impacts us ALL. Many of my patients with low back pain had corresponding constipation. In the hospital, many of my patient sessions were put on pause due to urinary or bowel incontinence. It was clear how devastating UTI’s were, especially for patients in the ICU who would suffer from a decline in cognition as a result. However, there were no conversations or options for pelvic floor treatment.
My passion is patient advocacy and access to care. People of all walks of life struggle with pelvic floor issues, and they too often get swept under the rug or written off as normal. This is unacceptable. Unable to provide the standard of care I knew I was capable of in a clinic setting, I started my own practice. I am committed to evidence-based, personalized care that gets my patients back to their lives - faster.
Following graduate school, my learning has continued through post-doctoral training in pelvic floor dysfunction, pregnancy rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, and excellence in treating orthopedic conditions.
